Become a domain registrar and resell web hosting
How
would you like to have your own web hosting company, be able to register domain
names, and offer web hosting to your clients? With services like Reseller
Club and Godaddy
Reseller Plans, it's relatively easy to make money online by doing just
that.
You basically get a site just like theirs, but branded with your own domain name. They provide web hosting and domain registration at wholesale prices, and you charge clients whatever you like.
Check out ValHosting.com for an example of a website that is completely ResellerClub based.
Make money online buying and selling domain names
Domain names have become a modern form of real estate, and the land rush is on! For a long time, I expected that new extensions (such as .info and .biz) would dilute the value and demand of .com/.net/.org. However, that's not really happening -- and it looks like those extensions will remain suburban sprawl compared to the "Madison Avenue" prestige of .com.
You're probably a little late for anymore jackpots like these:
- business.com -- sold for $7.5 million
- beer.com - sold for $7 million
- casino.com - sold for $ 5.5 million
- loans.com - sold for $3 million
- wine.com - sold for $2.9 million
- autos.com - sold for $2.2 million
- coupons.com - sold for $2.2 million
- bingo.com - sold for $1.1 million
- wallstreet.com - sold for $1.03 million
- men.com - sold for $1.32 million
However, even though big nuggets like these have been plucked from the surface doesn't mean there isn't still gold in the fields. You can still make money online as a domain name prospector. Thousands of domains are expiring every week, forgotten and released by owners who don't know their value.
I have purchased some of my favorite domain names in just this manner -- including both NetAJob.com and Clicktropolis.com! I've purchased some domains for less than $50, and later resold them for $2000+. So take it from me, there is money to be made in the domain name trade if you're savvy.
My personal suggestions for those starting out are:
- Focus on names that either have broad appeal, or contain high-value keywords -- those categories will be the easiest to resell. Since you may hold domains awhile before finding a buyer, it won't hurt if you also have your own ideas for monetizing the names if necessary.
- Don't buy up too many domains before working on your ability to resell them. From my experience, buying "cool" names can get addictive, and it's easy to get carried away.
Also,
consider domain "flipping". Similar to the practice with physical real estate,
"flipping" involves buying domains, developing/improving their websites, and
then selling them for a higher price with the upgrades. Domains with establish
websites (and traffic) appeal more to some buyers.
To get started, search Google for:
- Buy expired domains
- Sell domain name
Be sure to check out these domain-trading sites: DigitalPoint, Domain Name Aftermarket, Just Dropped, DNForum.com, Snap Names, Sedo.com, Flippa, and Afternic.
Those sites, as well as auction sites like eBay, can be excellent resources for buying and selling domains. However, I have also purchased some of my best names by directly contacting owners of unused domains and making an offer. Likewise, the best prices I've ever fetched have come from parties that contacted me directly about domains I was not actively promoting.
Make money online helping businesses find suppliers
Traditionally,
wholesale suppliers/distributors would only pay salespeople commissions for
their sales. Rewarding any kind of "outside" referral by a non-salesperson
was not practical (too difficult to track). However, all that has changed with
the Internet -- check out these sites:
uRefer is my favorite, but all these sites basically do the same thing:
- Provide information about products, and referral fees that suppliers are willing to pay.
- Arrange for payment to you once buyers have made a purchase.
Sales may not seem like the easiest way to make money online, but a good product/service can sell itself. Convincing a business to buy something that it needs, for a cheaper price than it currently pays, is not a hard sell.
Help your friends find jobs
For years, headhunters and recruiters have made hundreds or thousands of dollars for referring a qualified job candidate to an employer. Now there are websites that enable ordinary people to do the same thing. Rewards range from around $50 up to several hundred dollars. Begin your research here:
